For those who have not heard, Ron Howard, the actor who played Opie on the Andy Griffin show is struggling with President Trump’s “Make America Great Again.” He has asked the question, “When was America Great?” Like many Liberal Progressive Socialist Democrats he cannot accept anything from President Trump. To help remind them, here is my reply to Mr. Howard.

Mr. Ron Howard,

You asked, “When was America Great?

When was America Great? Our greatness as a country started in the very beginning, July 4, 1776. In the declaration declaring our independence, our greatness started with these words, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…”

When was America Great? America was Great as we established our Constitution. From its writing in 1787 through the ratification of the Bill of Rights in 1791, our constitution established the Republic and has been the framework for our greatness.

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

When was America Great? America has been Great when we have had true leaders answering the call from our allies.
James Monroe, who directed the founding of Liberia and Monrovia. Who issued the Monroe Doctrine to secure the peace and stability to the western hemisphere.
Woodrow Wilson, who led us through World War I, then formed the League of Nations.
FDR, who moved us from the Depression to prosperity and guided us through most of World War II.
Harry S Truman establishing the Truman Doctrine, “The policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures”
Ronald Reagan ending the cold war and delivering those famous words in Berlin, “Mr. Gorvachev, tear down this wall.”

When was America Great? America was Great as we led the world in the Industrial revolution change from an agrarian and handicraft economy to one led by industry and machine manufacturing.

When was America Great? America was great as our Freedom and Liberty gave rise to visionaries that changed the world.

Alexander Graham Bell
Thomas Edison
Eli Whitney
Samuel Slater
George Stephenson
Charles Lindberg
Henry Ford

When was America Great? America was great as we broke down the barriers between cultures and classes. As Millions of people from around the world have LEGALLY immigrated to this “melting pot” land of opportunity.

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

We opened up this land of Opportunity with the creation of the Homestead Act allowing more the ability to own land. We created public schools in the states and the Morrell Land Grant Act created colleges for the many, not just the wealthy few.

When was America Great? America was Great as Neil Armstrong made “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

Mr. Howard, this is just a few items in our History. While we have never been perfect and never will be. We learn from our mistakes while we preserve what makes us great. You, like so many of the Liberal Progressive Socialist Democrats lose sight of the great things we have done and continue to do, as you focus only on the imperfections.

Now we need to move beyond some of our past greatness. Now we need to Make America Great Again. Why Again?

Following a President that said he wanted to “fundamentally change our country.” Following 8 years of a President apologizing for America. A President refusing to lead, when called on by our allies claiming leading from behind is the way to go. One who more than doubled our National Debt leaving a burden for generations to come. A President who openly flaunted the Constitution boasting, “I don’t need Congress, I have a phone and a pen.” A President that brought a fascist government takeover of the health care industry.

Now is the time for all Americans to get on board with making America great again and securing the blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.
